Civic Library
The Civic Library, refurbished in 2007, combines conservation with public reading and holds about 180,000 volumes among old and modern printed works, manuscripts, photographs, archive documents and media. Reading on site is free; lending is free for residents of the province of Alessandria, after registering with an identity document, while non-residents must document domicile, study or work in the province. Up to 3 volumes and 2 multimedia items can be borrowed; the card is valid until 31 December and renews automatically.
Science Theatre and Jewish Deportees Park
At via Milleottocentoventuno 11 the Science Theatre (Teatro delle Scienze) includes the Natural Science Museum, with a route among rocks, minerals and fossils, and the Planetarium with an astronomy lab; the entrance and interior are accessible to people with disabilities and tactile boards are available for visually impaired visitors. Opening hours and prices are published by ASM Costruire Insieme, the municipality's agency for culture and museums. In via dei Forti the Jewish Deportees Park (Parco Deportati Ebrei) holds a Shoah memorial made of a railway wagon like those used for deportations.
Community gardens
The municipality assigns community vegetable gardens (orti sociali) to residents who own no land in the municipality or province and who are pensioners aged 60 or over, unemployed or on redundancy or short-time schemes, people with a certified disability able to tend the plot on their own, or cases referred by the social and health services.
