First steps with the municipality

  1. Residence registration

The declaration is filed at the municipal registry office (Hôtel de Ville, Piazza Chanoux) by appointment booked on the municipal website, or online with SPID/CIE through the national registry (ANPR). Proof of title to the dwelling is required. An inspector verifies the address in the following weeks.

  2. Electronic identity card

Book on the Interior Ministry's CIE agenda and attend the appointment at the registry desk; the card is posted to your home. The municipality also issues the bilingual version.

  3. Health and school

Choosing a GP goes through the Azienda USL Valle d'Aosta (desks or online). School enrolment follows the regional calendar; public schools teach Italian and French for equal hours.

Waste, water, services

Recycling is organised by the municipality with door-to-door collection for the main fractions (organic, paper, plastic and cans, glass, residual) and a calendar by zone published on the municipal website; the municipal collection centre takes bulky items, garden waste and electronics. The TARI waste tax is municipal and tariff transparency is published on the dedicated portal.

Tap water comes from Alpine springs, is drinkable and of good quality; many public fountains run all year. The Umberto Parini regional hospital, on Viale Ginevra, is the Valley's only acute hospital; the emergency department is there.

  • Shopping: the weekly market, supermarkets in the quarters and the outer ring (Les Corbeilles in Saint-Christophe); shopping streets Via de Tillier, Via Porta Praetoria, Via Sant'Anselmo and Via Aubert.
  • Libraries: the Bibliothèque régionale on Via Torre del Lebbroso is the main public library, with study rooms open to all; the university library is in the Testafochi hub.
  • Newcomers: the Cittadella dei Giovani on Via Garibaldi hosts Informagiovani, courses and associations; the immigration one-stop desk and the municipal centre for non-EU immigrants help with permits and Italian courses; the municipality's free Franco-Provençal courses are open to all.
  • Language: in public offices you may use Italian or French; forms are bilingual.
