Leisure: the botanical garden in Città Alta and Astino, the theatre season
The "Lorenzo Rota" Botanical Garden has two free sections, in Città Alta at Colle Aperto and in the Astino valley. The Fondazione Teatro Donizetti runs the theatre season (drama, opera, operetta, dance), the Donizetti Opera festival and Bergamo Jazz.

Botanical garden
Bergamo's "Lorenzo Rota" Botanical Garden has two sections: one in Città Alta, at the Scaletta di Colle Aperto, and Astino – Valley of Biodiversity, on via Astino. Entry is free; opening hours change with the season and are shorter at Astino in autumn and winter. The Sala Viscontea hosts exhibitions, and through the year there are workshops for schools and families, audio guides and talks.
Theatre and music
The Fondazione Teatro Donizetti runs the city's theatre season, the "Stagione dei Teatri", with drama, operetta, opera, concerts and family shows, as well as the Donizetti Opera festival and the Bergamo Jazz Festival; it also looks after Gaetano Donizetti's birthplace and guided tours. The Fondazione's website reports a temporary closure of the Teatro Donizetti for restoration work, while programming continues at other venues in the city.
