ASP and GP

Community care is run by the Azienda Sanitaria Provinciale of Catania, organised in districts; the city is served by the Catania district, whose patient-registry desks handle exemptions and paperwork. You choose, change or revoke your GP and paediatrician online from the ASP portal or at the district desks.

Hospitals and emergency departments

The "G. Rodolico – San Marco" university hospital (AOU Policlinico) has two sites, both with a general emergency department and live crowding data: the Rodolico at via Santa Sofia 78 and the San Marco on viale Carlo Azeglio Ciampi. The ARNAS Garibaldi is split between the Garibaldi-Centro and Garibaldi-Nesima sites, with a new paediatric emergency department being fitted out. The Cannizzaro hospital, an "azienda ospedaliera per l'emergenza" (emergency-focused trust), has general, paediatric and obstetric-gynaecological emergency departments, also with crowding data online.

Out-of-hours care

The city's out-of-hours posts (continuità assistenziale, former guardia medica) are at Librino (Stradale S. Giorgio 105, tel. 095/8183924), at corso Italia 234 by viale Fleming (095/382113) and at the PTA San Luigi on viale Fleming (095/8250165); in summer a tourist medical post operates at the Playa (viale Kennedy, mobile 3312314561).

Bookings and co-payments

The ASP booking centre answers on the freephone 800 954 414 (Monday–Friday 8:00–16:45) for both public-system and private-practice appointments; you can also book with the "ASP Con Te – Prenotazioni" app and, across all Sicilian health authorities, on the regional SovraCUP with SPID or CIE and an electronic prescription. Cancel at least 48 hours ahead (96 hours for tests needing preparation), or the co-payment is charged even to exempt patients. For U and B priority prescriptions the ASP runs fast-track paths: urgent within 3 days, short-priority within 10. The Cannizzaro has its own booking line, freephone 800-837.621.
