Sectors

Catanzaro lives on public employment: the Calabria Region with the Germaneto Cittadella and its agencies, the Prefecture and state offices, the court and the Court of Appeal with the whole legal profession, the Renato Dulbecco university hospital trust (created in 2023 from the merger of Pugliese-Ciaccio and Mater Domini) and the provincial health authority, the Magna Graecia University and schools. The private sector consists of retail, professional firms, construction and business services; tourism matters at the Lido in summer. Manufacturing is almost absent and Calabria has among the lowest employment rates in Italy (see data), with strong emigration of young graduates.

Businesses, public competitions, coworking

The Chamber of Commerce of Catanzaro, Crotone and Vibo Valentia, born from the merger of the three provincial chambers, is based in the city and provides business services. Opportunities for skilled profiles lie in regional and health public competitions, university research (biomedicine) and professional services linked to the Region. Coworking spaces are few, in the centre and in Germaneto; remote work relies on home and libraries. Fibre covers the centre, Germaneto and the Lido.

Catanzaro falls within the ZES unica for Southern Italy (since 2024): investment tax credit and single authorisation, with conditions updated every year by the ZES mission unit.
