Historic centre
According to the Comune's archaeology page, the highest point of the city, between the Prefecture and the church of Santa Maria, corresponds to the ancient acropolis: there stand the Cathedral, existing at least since the 12th century, and its bell tower, which overlooks the Sacco valley and probably reuses blocks from older buildings in its base. Piazza Garibaldi is identified with the ancient forum of Frusino. Two city gates survive, Porta Garibaldi to the north and Porta Campagiorni to the south.
Amphitheatre and Rione Giardino
The remains of the Roman amphitheatre, built between the late 1st and early 2nd century AD and holding about 2,000 spectators, were identified in 1965 in viale Roma, near the locality of Ponte della Fontana. In the Rione Giardino area (via Ferrarelli, via Giordano Bruno, viale Roma) Roman houses have been found over time, and a stretch of paved Roman road survives in via Ferrarelli.
Municipal Archaeological Museum
The Comune's Archaeological Museum, with a main site and a branch site, displays a 1:100 reconstruction model of the amphitheatre and keeps two marble sculptures found in Piazza Garibaldi, a statue of an armoured figure (loricato) and the head of a boy. Among its places the Comune also lists Palazzo Munari, its representative seat, and Piazza dello Scalo, in the lower town, opened in June 2025.
