Identity: the city of the walls
Lucca's 16th–17th-century walls define it: a 4.2-kilometre circuit around the centre, used as a promenade and as an events space. The Comune is based at via Santa Giustina 6.

The Walls as public space
The municipal tourism portal presents the Walls as the feature that encloses the whole historic centre: built between the mid-16th and mid-17th centuries, they are now an elevated promenade and a green ring over the city, used by people who walk, run or meet there and hosting concerts, exhibitions, sporting events and historical re-enactments.
Administration
The Comune di Lucca is based at via Santa Giustina 6 (switchboard 0583 4422). Its portal is organised by "topics" and the "Vivere il Comune" section gathers places and city news.
