When and how
The centre is visited in two days, on foot and by metro. The Last Supper must be booked weeks or months ahead on the official site; the Duomo and Brera are booked online to skip queues. Civic museums have periodic free openings listed on the municipal website and state museums follow the national free entry on the first Sunday of the month. The Abbonamento Musei Lombardia covers city and regional museums for longer stays.
The busiest periods, with hotels and rentals at their peak, are Design Week with the Salone del Mobile (April), the fashion weeks (late February and late September) and the big fairs in Rho. December has the Christmas markets and the opening night at La Scala; August is empty and hot; spring and autumn are the best months.
