Identity: the Sartiglia, the guilds and the memory of the judicial age

Sa Sartiglia is run on the last Sunday and Tuesday of Carnival: the Sunday joust is organised by the Farmers' guild, the Shrove Tuesday race is overseen by the Carpenters. The memory of the judicial age lives on in the Eleonora d'Arborea monument and the 14th-century model in the Antiquarium.

Sa Sartiglia

According to the municipality, the Sartiglia takes place on the last Sunday and Tuesday of Carnival: masked riders try to spear a star hanging from a ribbon with a sword or stocco, along via Vittorio Emanuele in front of the cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta. The Sunday joust is organised by the guild (gremio) of the Farmers; the guild of the Carpenters oversees the Shrove Tuesday race.

Memory of the judicial age

The monuments listed by the tourism portal include the monument to Eleonora d'Arborea and the Tower of San Cristoforo, or of Mariano II. The Antiquarium Arborense holds a reconstructive model of Oristano in the 14th century, in the judicial period.
