Territory
According to article 4 of the Statute, the municipal territory measures 187.14 km² and lies at the centre of the Livorno-Pisa-Lucca area. The Statute, adopted in 2001 and last amended by City Council resolution no. 63 of 27 November 2023 (in force since 9 January 2024), describes Pisa as a city open to cooperation and international relations and lists environmental protection among the city's fundamental values.
City events
The Statute recognises the Gioco del Ponte, the Regatta of the Ancient Maritime Republics, the Luminaria and the San Ranieri Regatta as historic-cultural events that enhance the city.
Participation
The advisory bodies provided by the Statute include the council of immigrants, the council of university students and the youth council. The Statute does not establish districts or circoscrizioni: it allows the Comune to create bodies representing parts of the territory by regulation, for the length of the mayor's term.
