Residence
Anyone coming to live in Prato from another municipality or from abroad must apply for residence within 20 days of moving. From another Italian municipality you use the online service of the national register (ANPR) with SPID, CIE or CNS; for a change of address within Prato the city also has its own online service. People arriving from a non-EU country cannot use ANPR and send the application by email, PEC or post. A Polizia Locale check follows and the application is deemed accepted after 45 days; updates also arrive on the IO app.
Driving in the centre
The city has set up three permanent restricted-traffic areas: ZTL A, active 24 hours a day; ZTL B, active every day from 7.30 am to 6.30 pm; and the controlled-traffic zone (ZTC), closed to polluting vehicles. There are also pedestrian areas, open only on foot or by bike. Permits are requested online and the city offers an expiry reminder.
Library
The Lazzerini municipal library is in the Santa Chiara district, inside the walls, in the former Campolmi factory that also houses the Textile Museum. Entry is free; borrowing and some services require registration, and the card is valid in every municipal library in the province. Free Wi-Fi, internet stations, a children's and teens' section and a local-history centre.
