Subsidence
Ravenna's ground is slowly sinking (subsidence). Law 845 of 1980 set out measures to protect the municipality from the phenomenon, placing groundwater extraction under public control. According to the regional monitoring published by ARPAE in 2019, subsidence has decreased at the measuring point by the church of Santa Maria in Porto and along the coast the downward trend continues, except for a depression area between Lido Adriano and the mouth of the Bevano stream, most marked at the mouth of the Fiumi Uniti.
Air quality
From 1 October to 31 March the anti-smog measures of the Liberiamo l'aria programme apply in Emilia-Romagna; for municipalities with more than 30,000 inhabitants the restrictions in force are those of the municipal ordinances. When a smog alert is triggered, emergency measures apply, published in ARPAE's bulletin, updated on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays after 11 am.
