First steps with the municipality

  1. Residence registration

The residence declaration is filed online with digital identity (SPID/CIE) through the municipal services portal or at the registry desk of your circoscrizione, by appointment. You need the registered lease or proof of title to the dwelling.

  2. Electronic identity card

Book on the Interior Ministry's CIE agenda or through the municipality's booking system; the card is issued at the chosen registry desk and delivered by post.

  3. GP, waste tax, parking permit

Choosing a GP goes through ASL Città di Torino (online with SPID or at its desks). The TARI waste tax is managed by the municipality; drivers apply for the residents' permit for the blue-line parking of their zone.

Waste, water, services

Waste collection is entrusted to Amiat (Iren group). Most of the city has door-to-door collection with a calendar by fraction (organic, paper, plastic and metals, glass, residual) and building bins; in the historic centre ecoisole were introduced, street containers that open with a personal card. Collection centres take bulky items and electronics; home pickup of bulky items is free on booking.

Tap water is supplied by SMAT, comes largely from Alpine springs and reservoirs and is tested and drinkable; the cast-iron bull-head fountains («toret») are a historic presence across the city. Public healthcare is run by ASL Città di Torino, with the Molinette, Mauriziano, Maria Vittoria and Martini hospitals and the Regina Margherita for children.

  • Markets and shopping: a neighbourhood market in every district almost every morning; Porta Palazzo for low-cost shopping; supermarkets of all chains.
  • Shopping streets: Via Roma and Via Lagrange (big brands), Via Garibaldi (pedestrian, among the longest in Europe), Via Po and Via Carlo Alberto (bookshops, cafés), Lingotto and the suburban malls.
  • Libraries: the Turin civic libraries have branches in every circoscrizione with free lending and study rooms; the National University Library in Piazza Carlo Alberto and the university libraries are open to outsiders on registration.
  • Newcomers: Informagiovani (TorinoGiovani) on Via Garibaldi for jobs, housing, volunteering and Erasmus; the municipality's Ufficio Stranieri for residence and permits; the welcome offices of the Politecnico and the University for international students and researchers; language and exchange associations in the circoscrizioni.
