Climate and air: heating ordinance and the Comune's Info Aria section
The Comune regulates the heating season by ordinance: for 2026/27 heating is allowed from 15 October to 15 April 2027, with reduced hours, 19 degrees (plus 2 tolerance) and more hours from 24 October. The municipal site points to InfoAria for temporary air-quality measures.

Heating ordinance
With temperatures above the seasonal average and rising energy costs, the Comune di Varese published the ordinance on switching on heating: from 15 to 23 October 2026 operation is limited to 7 hours a day between 5:00 and 23:00; from 24 October 2026 to 15 April 2027, to 13 hours. The temperature is lowered by 1 °C, from 20 to 19 degrees plus 2 tolerance, except nurseries and nursery schools; for industrial and craft buildings the limit stays at 18 plus 2.
Exclusions and background
Hospitals, nursing homes, clinics, RSA care homes and protected facilities for vulnerable people are excluded from the limits. The measure is part of the Sustainable Energy and Climate Action Plan, linked to the Covenant of Mayors.
Air quality and civil protection
The Comune's home page has an “Info Aria” section (temporary measures to improve air quality) that points to the regional InfoAria site, and another on the Civil Protection Plan.
