Statute and identity
Emilia-Romagna is an ordinary-statute region and in 2018 signed a preliminary agreement with the State on differentiated autonomy, not yet implemented. Romagna (provinces of Ravenna, Forlì-Cesena and Rimini, plus Imola and part of the Ferrara area) has a historical and dialect identity distinct from Emilia, but is not a separate body; its health service is organised in a single AUSL della Romagna. The official language is Italian; the Emilian-Romagnol dialects are protected only by a regional promotion law.
Holidays
There are no regional holidays. Patron saints: St Petronius in Bologna (4 October), St Geminianus in Modena (31 January), St Hilary in Parma (13 January), St Prosper in Reggio Emilia (24 November), St Apollinaris in Ravenna (23 July), St Gaudentius in Rimini (14 October). The Notte Rosa on the Riviera (early July) and the Ferrara Buskers Festival (August) are the best-known summer events.
