Organisation

The Piedmontese health service is organised in twelve Local Health Authorities (ASL): ASL Città di Torino, TO3, TO4, TO5, AL, AT, BI, CN1, CN2, NO, VC and VCO. Added to these are the hospital and university hospital trusts (Città della Salute in Turin, Mauriziano, San Luigi in Orbassano, Novara, Alessandria, Cuneo) and Azienda Zero, which since 2022 centralises functions such as procurement, the 118 emergency service and the regional booking centre. Newcomers choose a GP at the ASL of residence or through the online services.

Health record, booking and co-payments

Salute Piemonte (salutepiemonte.it, with SPID or CIE) is the single entry point for the Electronic Health Record, test results, e-prescriptions, GP change, co-payment (ticket) payment and bookings. Income-based ticket exemptions follow national rules; the Region has in the past added exemptions of its own (for example for the unemployed), which must be checked on the regional portal because they change with the regional budget law.

Mountains

In the Alpine valleys medical rescue is run by the 118 service with regional helicopter rescue and the Piedmontese Alpine and Cave Rescue: call 112. Off-piste skiers and climbers should check their insurance cover, because the recovery of uninjured people or non-medical situations may be charged.

Rules on exemptions, co-payments and registration with the health service change often: check the official Regione Piemonte website or your ASL before acting.
