Sectors and districts
Piedmont's employment rates are above the national average but below Lombardy, Emilia-Romagna and Veneto. Turin offers services, public administration, research, automotive and aerospace; the province of Cuneo has one of the lowest unemployment rates in Italy thanks to food processing, engineering and logistics. The historic districts: wool textiles in Biella, goldsmithing in Valenza, wine and confectionery in Alba and the Langhe, taps and valves in Valsesia and Cusio, rice in the Vercelli and Novara area.
Seasonal and cross-border work
Seasonal work concentrates in fruit picking in the Saluzzo and Cuneo areas (summer), the grape harvest (September–October) and winter and summer tourism in the Alpine resorts and on Lake Maggiore. From the Ossola (VCO) thousands of residents commute to Switzerland (Ticino and Valais) as frontier workers; the tax rules for frontier workers are set by the Italy–Switzerland agreement in force since 2024 and should be checked with a professional.
Employment services
Job centres (Centri per l'impiego) are run by Agenzia Piemonte Lavoro, the Region's agency: registration, the declaration of immediate availability, Garanzia Giovani, the GOL programme and traineeships go through it. The Agency also publishes the regional labour market observatory data.
