Daily life: Comune, AnconAmbiente, water, shopping, libraries

Registry and municipal services are at the town hall and online with SPID/CIE. AnconAmbiente manages waste collection, with door-to-door service in most of the city. Water is managed by Viva Servizi and is drinkable. Shopping happens at the Mercato delle Erbe, the Piano market and supermarkets; the Benincasa municipal library is in the centre.

City hall

Residence, electronic ID card and certificates are requested at the Comune di Ancona registry desk (largo XXIV Maggio), by appointment booked online, or through online services with SPID or CIE; waiting times are generally short compared with big cities. The Comune publishes calls (housing, nurseries, subsidies), notices and the fault-reporting service on its portal. For foreign citizens the Comune's immigration office and the Prefecture's Sportello unico per l'immigrazione are both in the city.

Waste and water

AnconAmbiente, the Comune's public company, manages waste collection: in most districts door-to-door collection is in place with a weekly calendar by fraction (organic, paper, plastic and metals, glass, residual) and bags or containers provided; in the historic centre and some zones street containers remain. The website shows the calendar by street, the drop-off centre for bulky items and home pickup by booking. The TARI waste tax is paid to the Comune.

Water is managed by Viva Servizi (formerly Multiservizi), a public company of the province's municipalities: it comes from the Gorgovivo springs inland and is drinkable and of good quality; analyses are published on the website.

Shopping

The Mercato delle Erbe on corso Mazzini (covered, closed Sunday) and the Piano market (open-air, with clothing and food) are the references; chain supermarkets are widespread in all districts. The shopping streets are corso Garibaldi, corso Mazzini and viale della Vittoria; shopping malls are at Baraccola and Camerano. Duty pharmacies are listed by the Comune and the pharmacists' association.

Libraries and orientation

The Luciano Benincasa municipal library, in palazzo Mengoni Ferretti in the centre, has free lending, a periodicals room and study rooms; UnivPM libraries are open to enrolled students. The Comune's Informagiovani gives guidance on study, work and European opportunities; the Ancona CPIA offers free Italian courses for foreigners; partner associations run desks for permits and housing.
