The university
The Marche Polytechnic University (UnivPM), founded in 1969 as the University of Ancona, has five faculties: Engineering, Sciences and Agriculture at the Monte Dago campus (on the hill to the south, linked by bus), Medicine and Surgery at Torrette next to the Marche University Hospital, and Economics "Giorgio Fuà" in the former Villarey barracks in the centre. It has branch sites in other Marche towns (Fermo, Pesaro, San Benedetto, Macerata for some courses). It is a small-to-medium university with a strong technical-scientific and health focus and good graduate employment rates. The Pergolesi Conservatory is in Fermo.
Student support
ERDIS Marche manages grants, university residences and canteens for all Marche universities, through an annual call based on ISEE and merit; in Ancona the halls are at Monte Dago and in the centre. UnivPM fees follow the national ISEE bands with exemptions for low incomes.
Where students live
Those attending Monte Dago look for rooms in Brecce Bianche, Tavernelle and Monte Dago; medical students in Torrette and Collemarino; economics students in the centre and the Piano, where prices are lower. Many students commute from the province and the rest of the Marche, with frequent regional trains.
Programmes in English
UnivPM offers master's degrees in English mainly in engineering (biomedical, environmental, computer), economics and agricultural and food sciences, plus international doctorates; the updated list is on Universitaly. The university takes part in double-degree programmes with European universities.
