Sectors
The port, managed by the Central Adriatic Sea Port Authority, generates direct and indirect jobs in ferries, cruises, freight handling, shipping agencies, logistics and fishing (Ancona has one of the Adriatic's largest fishing fleets). The Fincantieri yard in Ancona builds cruise and naval ships and feeds a chain of fitting-out and systems companies; leisure boating has yards in the area.
The Marche Region, the Province, the Comune, the Prefecture and state offices make public administration the city's largest employer, followed by health (the Marche University Hospital at Torrette, INRCA for geriatrics) and the Polytechnic University. In the province and the Esino and Musone valleys are mechanics, household appliances, musical instruments (Castelfidardo) and agri-food.

Where people work

Coworking exists in the centre with a few small spaces. The Marche Chamber of Commerce, based in Ancona, is the reference for starting a business and publishes data on the regional business fabric.
What to know
The labour market is mid-sized and stable, with good employment but few senior private-sector positions: the best opportunities are in the public sector, health, shipbuilding and the province's manufacturing companies, which often require a car.
