The provincial hospital

Bolzano Hospital, at via Lorenz Böhler 5 (switchboard 0471 438 111), is the largest in South Tyrol and a reference point for the whole province: the most complex operations are often performed here, with declared strengths in neurosurgery and neonatal intensive care and a decade-long collaboration with Italian university hospitals and the University of Innsbruck. The emergency department's direct line is 0471 438 330; for emergencies call 112.

Booking visits and tests

The single booking number for health and prevention services is 100 100 preceded by the health district's dialling code (0471 100 100 for Bolzano), Monday to Friday from 8:00 to 16:00. Online you can book around the clock on the SaniBook portal (sanibook.asdaa.it), which covers more than 70 services plus blood tests and vaccinations and lets you move or cancel appointments; multifunctional desks remain at the hospital and in the districts, while some services are booked directly at the wards. For private visits in hospital: 0471 466 466.

116117 piloted in Bolzano

Since 15 September 2026 the European number 116117 has been active as a pilot exclusively in the Bolzano health district, 24 hours a day all year round: for non-urgent health needs it connects you with the out-of-hours service (ex guardia medica) outside your GP's hours and aims to reduce inappropriate emergency room visits; for tourists it works like the former tourist medical service. For emergencies, 112 remains the number.

Opening hours, numbers and access rules change, and the 116117 pilot may evolve: check the South Tyrol Health Authority website (asdaa.it) before acting.
