Comune and documents

Registry services (residence, certificates, electronic ID card) are requested by appointment at the Comune's offices and at the Municipalità di Pirri; many certificates can be downloaded online with a digital identity. Regional offices are spread between Via Roma, Viale Trento and Viale Trieste; state and health offices between the centre and the Via Dante–Via Sonnino area. The city is compact and almost everything is reachable on foot or by CTM.

Waste

Waste collection is door-to-door across the city, contracted by the Comune to an operator: bins and bags per fraction (organic, paper, plastic and metals, glass, residual) with a distinct calendar by zone and evening set-out; bulky items and electronic waste on request or at the municipal recycling centres. The separated-waste rate is among the highest of the large southern municipalities. The TARI waste tax is paid to the Comune, which publishes calendars, rates and deadlines.

Water, libraries, markets

Mains water is distributed by Abbanoa, the island's single operator: it is drinkable but hard, and many use filters or bottled water for taste; contracts are activated online. The MEM (Mediateca del Mediterraneo, Via Mameli) is the main municipal library with study rooms, archive and wi-fi, alongside the neighbourhood libraries and the University Library. For shopping: the San Benedetto market (closed in the afternoon and on Sundays), Santa Chiara in Stampace, Sant'Elia, the local street markets and supermarkets in every district; Sardinian products are found in the shops of Villanova and Stampace.
