Climate and risks: Campi Flegrei and the Area vasta
Besides the climate data below, two specific risks matter in Giugliano: part of the municipality lies in the red zone of the Campi Flegrei, a volcano at yellow alert level and, since October 2025, in the second-level attention phase; the Area vasta di Giugliano, with its landfills, is a site of national interest awaiting remediation.

Campi Flegrei
According to the Civil Protection Department, the Campi Flegrei red zone — where, in case of alarm, preventive evacuation is the only safety measure — includes the whole of Pozzuoli, Bacoli, Monte di Procida and Quarto, part of the municipalities of Giugliano in Campania and Marano di Napoli, and several districts of Naples. The volcano's alert level is yellow; a decree of 30 October 2025 adopted the second-level operational attention phase. Giugliano is not among the municipalities of the yellow zone, exposed to ash fall.
Area vasta di Giugliano
Law no. 120 of 11 September 2020 designated the site of national interest (SIN) «Area vasta di Giugliano». It is a countryside zone on the outskirts of the town containing seven landfills, including Resit. According to a March 2025 report by Il Post, at that date the waste had not been removed and the land had not been remediated; the government had recently appointed an extraordinary commissioner, Carabinieri general Giuseppe Vadalà.
