The Palio del Golfo
On the first Sunday of August the boats of the thirteen seafaring villages of the Gulf of Poets compete in the Palio del Golfo, the rowing contest that is the main event of La Spezia's Festa del Mare. The villages — such as Marola, an ancient settlement tied to the sea — are also destinations for walks throughout the year.
Seafront and castle
The Costantino Morin promenade, with views over the gulf and the Apuan Alps, is the city's seafront; the castle can also be reached with the lift run by ATC Esercizio.
