City hall and hamlet offices

Residence, electronic ID card and certificates are requested at the Comune dell'Aquila registry desks, in the centre, by appointment booked online, or at the municipal offices in the larger hamlets (Paganica, Bazzano, Sassa, Preturo, Roio); many certificates can be downloaded online with SPID or CIE. The Comune publishes calls (housing, nurseries, subsidies), reconstruction information and the reporting service on its portal. The Sportello unico per l'immigrazione is at the Prefecture, in the centre.

Waste and water

ASM S.p.A. (Aquilana Società Multiservizi), the Comune's company, manages waste collection with door-to-door service extended to the whole municipal territory, hamlets included: weekly calendar by fraction (organic, paper, plastic and metals, glass, residual) with containers provided, drop-off centres for bulky items and home pickup by booking; the website shows the calendar by zone. The TARI waste tax is paid to the Comune.

Water is managed by Gran Sasso Acqua S.p.A., a public company of the province's municipalities: it comes from the Gran Sasso springs and is drinkable, cold and of excellent quality; analyses are published on the website, and the Fountain of the 99 Spouts and the fountains in the centre give drinking water.

Shopping

The piazza Duomo market (Monday–Saturday) is the reference for food and local produce; supermarkets and shopping centres are in Pettino, along state road 17 and in the Pile zone (L'Aquilone shopping centre), reached by car or AMA bus; the historic centre has neighbourhood shops reopened after reconstruction along the corso. Duty pharmacies are listed by the Comune and the pharmacists' association.

Libraries and orientation

The Salvatore Tommasi provincial library, operating between the centre and its Bazzano site since the earthquake, is the main public library; UnivAQ and GSSI libraries are open to enrolled students; the Comune has neighbourhood and hamlet libraries. The municipal Informagiovani gives guidance on study and work; the L'Aquila CPIA offers free Italian courses for foreigners; partner associations run desks for permits and housing, with attention also to the international staff of the university and laboratories.
