Housing: rebuilt centre, Pettino, Coppito, hamlets and the C.A.S.E. project
The rebuilt historic centre offers new flats in old buildings and has become the most sought-after place again; Pettino and viale Corrado IV are the services periphery; Coppito serves the hospital and university; the hamlets and C.A.S.E. districts cost less but require a car. Public housing through ATER L'Aquila and the Comune; student housing through ADSU.

Neighbourhoods by profile
Historic centre: within the walls, flats rebuilt to earthquake-resistant standards in historic palaces, shops and bars reopened along the corso and in the squares; the zone chosen by those who want to live on foot and by GSSI and humanities students; some blocks are still construction sites. Pettino, viale Corrado IV, via Strinella, Torrione: the inner periphery north-west and east of the centre, with supermarkets, schools, 1970s–1990s blocks and many rebuilt ones; the most common choice for families.
Coppito: around the San Salvatore hospital and the Coppito university campus; engineering's main site is instead at Monteluco di Roio, outside the district; rooms and flats for students and health workers. Hamlets: Paganica and Bazzano to the east (the most populous, with their own services), Sassa, Preturo and Pile to the west towards the industrial zone, Assergi and Camarda towards the mountains; houses with gardens, low prices, car needed. C.A.S.E. project: 19 settlements of earthquake-resistant buildings on base isolators built in 2009–2010 (Bazzano, Sant'Antonio, Coppito, Paganica, Sassa and others) for displaced people, today partly allocated as public housing or for students and workers.

Market and short-term rentals
The market is shaped by reconstruction: the supply of new or rebuilt flats is wide relative to demand, prices are among the lowest of the provincial capitals and homes in the historic centre are often sold or rented for the first time since 2009. Short-term rentals have grown in the centre with tourism and the Capital of Culture year, but without the pressure of the art cities. USRA publishes the status of works by building aggregate: useful to know whether a block still has construction sites.
Public housing and student housing
Public residential housing is managed by the ATER of the province of L'Aquila and by the Comune, which publishes allocation calls and also manages the remaining C.A.S.E. project and MAP (temporary housing module) homes, with residence and income criteria. ADSU L'Aquila (the agency for the right to university study) allocates beds in university residences and in C.A.S.E. project homes under agreement, through an annual call by ISEE and merit; GSSI provides accommodation for its doctoral students. The private room market is in the centre, Pettino and Coppito.
