- Fortezza Vecchia: a Medici fortress built from 1519 to a design by Antonio da Sangallo the Elder, it incorporates the Mastio di Matilda keep and medieval remains; visitors walk the walls with views over the port and sea, and it hosts concerts and events.
- Venezia Nuova: a seventeenth-century merchant quarter on the water, with canals (Fossi) toured by boat, the octagonal church of Santa Caterina, the church of San Ferdinando and the Bottini dell'Olio, now the city museum and municipal library.
- Four Moors: the monument to Ferdinando I in piazza Micheli (in its present position since 1617), facing the Medici port, with bronzes by Pietro Tacca.
- Terrazza Mascagni: an Art Nouveau belvedere on the seafront with chequerboard paving and a music gazebo, looking towards the Tuscan Archipelago and the Meloria; the Bagni Pancaldi and the Aquarium are nearby.
- Naval Academy: founded in 1881, it trains Italian Navy officers; it opens to the public once a year in June for Navy Day, and the training ship Amerigo Vespucci is often moored in the port.
Events
Effetto Venezia turns the Venezia quarter into an open-air stage for five days in the first week of August; in September Cacciucco Pride offers tastings and cooking shows. From April into the summer the district rowing races are held in the canals and in front of the Terrazza Mascagni.
