In Matera, local and hospital health services belong to the Azienda Sanitaria Locale di Matera (ASM). The city's hospital is the "Madonna delle Grazie"; the company's other hospital is the "Papa Giovanni Paolo II" in Policoro.
Emergency room
The Pronto Soccorso complex unit in Matera is on the ground floor of block A of the Madonna delle Grazie hospital, in contrada Cattedra Ambulante, and is open 24 hours a day (phone given on the unit page: 0835/311616). Milder cases may wait longer: the page explains the four priority codes (red, yellow, green, white) and warns that non-urgent cases may involve paying the ticket.

To book you can use the Portale delle Prenotazioni, the CUP desk or the toll-free number 800 814 814 (Monday-Friday 7-19, Saturday 7-14). The cashier's office is open Monday 8-13 and 14-18, Tuesday-Thursday 7:30-13 and 14-18, Friday 7:30-13, closed on Saturday; the test-results desk is open Monday-Friday 8-18 and Saturday 8-13. The ASM also publishes waiting lists.
Family doctor and out-of-hours doctor
Choosing or revoking the family doctor can be done online, without going to the desk, with a digital signature, through the Servizi Anagrafe portal trialled by the health authorities of Matera and Potenza. For out-of-hours care the ASM home page points to its on-call section: locations and hours should be checked with the authority.
