Work: retail, construction and tourism; opportunities for young people
According to the Chamber of Commerce, at the end of 2024 the province of Messina had 62,979 registered businesses, 47,871 of them active; retail is the leading sector, followed by construction and agriculture, while business services and tourism are growing. The municipal YoungME portal collects calls, internships and work grants for under-35s.

Businesses and sectors
According to the Chamber of Commerce's 2026 forecasting and planning report, on 31 December 2024 there were 62,979 registered businesses in the province of Messina, 47,871 of them active. Retail is the leading sector by number of businesses (16,921), followed by construction (8,879, about 16%) and agriculture (6,370, about 11.5%); business services and tourism are among the sectors with a positive balance, and tourism is second only to retail by number of local units. Together with the Reggio Calabria Chamber and the Metropolitan City, the Chamber leads the «Ride on Strait» project, a strategic tourism plan for the Strait area.
For young people
YoungME is the Comune's portal for under-35s: it publishes calls and notices, such as the one for 148 «on the job» work grants, selections and paid internships, the NEETwork ME notice funding youth start-ups, training programmes and a map of places to get information, study and work.
