Cost of living: the waste tax and the online tax desk

The waste tax (TARI) is collected by the Comune, which must cover the full cost of the service; the provincial environmental levy is added on top. Assessment notices increasingly arrive digitally through SEND. Rents, OMI prices and the transport pass are in the data.

TARI

TARI, in force since 2014, funds waste collection, transport and disposal and street-cleaning services, whose full cost the Comune must cover from the revenue. The provincial environmental levy (Tributo ambientale provinciale), set by provincial executive resolution no. 160/2014, is added to the amount owed to the Comune. The rules are in Law no. 147/2013 and the municipal regulation.

Notices and tax desk

The Comune's tax department is progressively serving TARI assessment notices through the national SEND platform: they arrive via the IO app, email or SMS or, for those with no registered digital contact, by registered letter containing only the link to the document, at the recipient's expense. Procedures are handled online at the Sportello tributi with SPID or CIE; the physical desk is open without appointment Monday to Friday from 8:30 to 12:30, otherwise by appointment arranged by phone.
