Health: Parma district, Maggiore Hospital (AOU) and in-hospital CAU
The city is in the AUSL's Parma District; the AUSL and the University Hospital are being merged into one health authority. The Maggiore also hosts the 118 Emilia Ovest operations centre.

Who covers the city
The Azienda USL di Parma is divided into four districts: the city belongs to the Parma District, together with Colorno, Sorbolo Mezzani and Torrile, with the Case della Salute/della Comunità as local access points. A merger of the AUSL and the University Hospital into a single health authority, promoted by the Region, is under way, built around the network of the Maggiore, Vaio and Borgotaro hospitals.
Hospital and emergency room
The University Hospital's emergency room is on via Abbeveratoia, with nurse-led triage and five colour-coded priority levels; Parma's hospital is the hub centre for major trauma. Next to the emergency room there are a clinic for orthopaedic urgencies (Orthopaedics pavilion) and one for eye urgencies (Central pavilion, daily 9–12 and 15:30–19:30).
CAU: low-complexity urgent care
Parma's Assistance and Urgency Centre is at the Maggiore Hospital, with direct access and no booking or doctor's referral: a doctor-and-nurse team treats low-complexity urgent problems. The visit and basic blood tests are free for Emilia-Romagna residents; non-residents without a regional GP pay 20 euro. The other CAUs in the province are in Fidenza (Vaio Hospital), Fornovo and Langhirano.
Out-of-hours doctor and 118
The Parma city out-of-hours doctor answers on 0521.292555, based in the former lodge of the Odontostomatology pavilion (pav. 22), near the via Abbeveratoia entrance: nightly from 20:00 to 8:00, on pre-holidays from 10:00 to 20:00 (Saturdays from 8:00) and on holidays from 8:00 to 20:00. The 118 service, based at the Parma AOU with the Emilia Ovest operations centre, handles emergencies for the provinces of Parma, Piacenza and Reggio Emilia, with the air ambulance based in the city.
