The university

According to the university's site, the Università di Pavia is the oldest in Lombardy and one of the oldest in Europe: in 825 Lothair's capitulary set up the school of rhetoric, and in 1361 Charles IV founded the Studium Generale. Today it offers, at its Pavia and Cremona sites, 2 faculties, 18 departments and 85 degree courses, with almost 24,000 enrolled students and more than 400 agreements with foreign universities. Three of its teachers won Nobel Prizes: Golgi (Medicine, 1906), Natta and Rubbia.

Colleges, canteens and grants

There are 18 university colleges and they are a distinctive trait of the city: students live together and receive personalised guidance. Alongside them are EDiSU's own colleges: the right-to-study agency reports 12 colleges, 1,643 beds and 4 canteens, with 2,729 study grants paid for 2025/26, yearly calls for places in the Pavia and Cremona colleges and an accommodation service (ACSER).
