Two public universities: the State University (1308), with departments spread between the centre, Elce, Monteluce, Borgo XX Giugno, Sant'Andrea delle Fratte and Santa Lucia, and the University for Foreigners at Palazzo Gallenga, teaching Italian and the humanities to international students. Universities
The University of Perugia (UniPG) is among Italy's oldest and has departments spread across the city: humanities in piazza Morlacchi and via del Verzaro, law and economics in via Pascoli and Elce, sciences at Elce and via del Giochetto, agriculture and veterinary medicine at Borgo XX Giugno (San Pietro), medicine at the Sant'Andrea delle Fratte campus next to the hospital, engineering at Santa Lucia, plus sites in Terni, Assisi, Foligno and Narni. It offers English-taught master's degrees and doctorates listed on the international portal. The University for Foreigners (Unistrapg), at Palazzo Gallenga in piazza Fortebraccio, is the Italian university historically devoted to teaching Italian language and culture to foreigners: language courses at every level, degrees in communication and international relations and the CELI certification. The Academy of Fine Arts and the Morlacchi Conservatory complete the offering.
Student support
ADiSU Umbria (the agency for the right to university education) allocates grants, places in university halls in the centre and the districts and meals in canteens (including the central one in via Pascoli) through an annual call by ISEE income and merit; beds are more available than in the big cities. Students get discounted passes on Busitalia buses and the Minimetrò.
Where students live
The historic centre is the student district: via dei Priori, Corso Garibaldi, via della Viola and piazza Danti host rooms, bars and the humanities departments; Elce and via Pascoli are close to law, economics and sciences; Monteluce and Sant'Erminio to the residences and the former hospital; medical students often live in Sant'Andrea delle Fratte or San Sisto. The Biblioteca Augusta and departmental libraries are the study spots; student nightlife is concentrated on the acropolis.
