From two banks to a new municipality

Pescara's identity is that of a young city: the two banks of the river were united into a single city in 1927; the "Pescara 100" project is dedicated to the city's centenary.

Regional Law no. 13 of 17 March 2023, amended by Regional Law no. 17 of the same month, established from 1 January 2027 the new Comune di Pescara, born from the merger of Pescara, Montesilvano and Spoltore. The municipality has a merger office, a constituent assembly and a statute commission; the official page should be checked for progress.

Symbols

La Nave (The Ship), a Carrara marble fountain shaped like an ancient galley, carved by Pescara-born Pietro Cascella and inaugurated on 4 July 1987 in largo Mediterraneo, is one of the city's symbols. Pescara Jazz, organised by the Ente Manifestazioni Pescaresi, reached its 54th edition in 2026.

The merger with Montesilvano and Spoltore is scheduled from 1 January 2027: offices, local taxes and regulations may change. Check on the Comune di Pescara website.
