Fotografia Europea is the contemporary photography festival founded in Reggio Emilia in 2006, the city of Luigi Ghirri, and has reached twenty-one editions; it is a project of the Fondazione Palazzo Magnani with the municipality. The I Teatri Foundation runs three theatres in the centre, the Municipale Valli, the Ariosto and the Cavallerizza; the autumn Festival Aperto also uses the Maramotti Collection. Every three years the Teatro Valli hosts the Paolo Borciani Prize, an international string quartet competition.
