The three city ASLs
The municipal territory is divided among three health authorities. ASL Roma 2 has six districts matching municipi IV, V, VI, VII, VIII and IX; ASL Roma 3 covers municipi X, XI and XII plus the municipality of Fiumicino; the remaining central and northern municipi belong to ASL Roma 1. Your district of residence is the gateway for choosing a GP, exemptions and community services.
The ASL hospitals
Alongside the hospital trusts and university policlinici, the ASLs directly run local hospitals: Roma 1 runs the San Filippo Neri (via Martinotti 20), the Santo Spirito in Sassia (lungotevere in Sassia 1) and the Oftalmico eye hospital on via Cipro; Roma 2 runs the Sandro Pertini and the Sant'Eugenio, both emergency-department sites, with the Andrea Alesini orthopaedic trauma centre (CTO); Roma 3 runs the G.B. Grassi in Ostia (via Passeroni 28), whose emergency room is open around the clock.
Family doctor
You choose or change your GP online on the regional Salute Lazio portal or at the general-practice desk of your district of residence, which holds the lists of doctors with open slots; a change requires an identity document and your health-service enrolment document. Children up to 6 are assigned a paediatrician; from 6 to 14 you can choose between a paediatrician and a GP.
