Costs: housing, transport, parking and tourist tax
Rents and purchase prices in the central zone are in the data below. Buses apply UnicoCampania fares; public lifts and escalators are almost all free. Parking in Salerno Mobilità areas is paid, with permits for ZPRU residents. Non-residents staying overnight pay the tourist tax, increased from 1 June 2026.

Transport
In the city, Busitalia Campania buses apply the fares of the regional UnicoCampania system, including monthly passes (see data); urban tickets can also be paid on board with a contactless card. Four of the five public lifts and escalators run by Salerno Mobilità — the via Velia, via Fusandola and via Alfonso Gatto lifts and the via Indipendenza escalator — are free. The Airlink to the airport needs its own single ticket: regional passes and tickets are not valid.
Parking
In the areas managed by Salerno Mobilità parking is paid at meters or with a pass; residents of the ZPRU zones have a dedicated resident permit. Fares and rules are on the company's website.
Tourist tax
Anyone staying overnight in the city who is not resident there pays the tourist tax per person per night, for up to seven consecutive nights, with amounts that differ by type of accommodation and time of year. A resolution of 8 April 2026 raised the rates from 1 June 2026; Salerno residents and University of Salerno students staying for study are among those exempt.
