Health care: ASP Siracusa, Umberto I and Rizza hospitals

The city's health care falls under the ASP of Siracusa (headquarters at corso Gelone 17), which runs the city's two hospital sites, the Umberto I and the Rizza on viale Epipoli, and publishes emergency-department crowding online. Out-of-hours posts at both sites; CUP desks in the facilities and the regional SovraCUP online.

Who runs it

All public health care in the province falls under the Azienda Sanitaria Provinciale of Siracusa, based at corso Gelone 17 (switchboard 0931 724111): unlike Palermo, Catania and Messina, there are no separate hospital trusts or university hospitals. The ASP publishes the lists of GPs and paediatricians for choosing your doctor, and a live monitor of emergency-department crowding.

Hospitals and out-of-hours care

In the city the ASP runs two hospital sites: the Umberto I, the main hospital, and the A. Rizza site on viale Epipoli; the provincial network also includes the "Giuseppe Di Maria" Avola-Noto hospital and the Lentini hospital. Out-of-hours care (continuità assistenziale, former guardia medica) in the Siracusa district has two posts in the city, at the Umberto I (0931 724276) and at the Rizza (0931 484629).

Bookings

Visits and tests with an electronic prescription are booked at the CUP desks in the province's public facilities (Monday–Friday 8:00–13:00, with afternoon openings on Tuesday and Thursday), by phone through the CUP, or online on SovraCUP, the single booking portal of the Sicilian health authorities.

Opening hours, locations, numbers and rules change often: check the ASP Siracusa website (asp.sr.it) before going in person.
