Industrial history includes chemicals, jute and hydroelectric power; the university trains industrial engineers in the city.

Steel
Acciai Speciali Terni, based on viale Brin and under the management and coordination of Finarvedi (Arvedi AST brand), states that it is the market leader in Italy and among the top four European producers of stainless steel flat products; through its subsidiary Tubificio di Terni it makes welded stainless tubes and through its Forging Division special forged steels. It is the heir of the company founded in 1884.
Industry then and now
Besides steel, Terni has had chemicals (the SIRI plant, now the CAOS cultural centre), the Centurini jute mill closed in 1970, and hydroelectric plants fed by the Marmore Falls, such as the Papigno plant closed in 1973. The University of Perugia campus runs Industrial Engineering courses in the city up to master's level, as well as Medicine and Economics.
