Cathedral and port

The Cathedral is the city's main religious building, in Apulian Romanesque style, with the upper church, the 12th-century crypt and the frescoed hypogeum of San Leucio, about 1.6 metres below sea level. The old port, according to the guide, declined with the new routes to the Americas and was heavily bombed in the Second World War.

Castle and Giudecca

The Swabian Castle (piazza Re Manfredi 16) is also a museum. In the Giudecca one can visit the Scolagrande synagogue and Santa Maria di Scolanova, a former synagogue converted into a church that now houses a museum; the guide notes there were originally four synagogues. Palazzo Caccetta, dating from 1456, has a late-Gothic facade and houses the courthouse.

Museums

The Comune lists four museums: Castello Svevo, Museo de La Guardia Urbana di Trani (corso Imbriani), Museo Sinagoga Sant'Anna (via la Giudea 24) and Polo Museale Diocesano (piazza Duomo 8).
