Food and going out

Trentino cuisine is mountain and border food: canederli in broth or butter, strangolapreti (bread and spinach dumplings), tortel di patate with cold cuts and cheeses, Storo polenta, carne salada with beans, speck, lucanica sausage, alpine-pasture cheeses (Trentingrana, Puzzone di Moena, Vezzena), Val di Non apples in every dessert, strudel and zelten at Christmas. Wines: Trentodoc sparkling, Teroldego Rotaliano, Marzemino, Nosiola and Vino Santo, grappa; cooperative wineries and sparkling houses can be visited a few kilometres away.

Evenings concentrate in the historic centre: Piazza Duomo and Piazza Pasi, Via San Pietro and Via Suffragio, Piazza Fiera and Le Albere for the newer venues; students meet at San Bartolameo. Nightlife is modest and venues close relatively early; big concerts are at Trento Fiere and the Santa Chiara Auditorium.

  • Parks and walks: Gocciadoro park, Le Albere park next to the MUSE, the Doss Trento, the Adige cycle path from Bolzano to Verona, the San Vili trail towards Madonna di Campiglio, the Marzola and Calisio trails.
