Housing and neighbourhoods in Trento
Scarce and expensive supply: the historic centre and the hills (Povo, Villazzano, Cognola) are the most sought after; Bolghera, Clarina and San Bartolameo the student areas; Gardolo and Mattarello cheaper and well connected. Public housing through ITEA and the municipality; university residences run by the Opera Universitaria.

The market
The market is small and moves in September with the arrival of students and researchers: good listings last a few days and agencies charge one month's rent as commission. Geography limits supply and purchase prices in the centre and on the hills compare with those of much larger cities. The municipality has adopted tools to limit the conversion of homes into tourist accommodation in the historic centre; the weight of short-term rentals remains below that of the art cities.
The most common contracts are the 4+4 and the agreed-rent 3+2, which in Trento benefits from local agreements with rent bands by zone. Official OMI quotations by zone are in the Agenzia delle Entrate database.
Public housing and students
Public housing is managed by ITEA (Istituto Trentino per l'Edilizia Abitativa), a provincial company administering social housing and sustainable-rent flats; applications go to the municipality (housing service) when calls open, with ISEE and provincial residence requirements. The Province also pays a rent top-up contribution and supports cooperative social housing.
For students, the Opera Universitaria (a provincial body) runs the San Bartolameo student hall, the Mayer residence and other housing in the city and Rovereto, allocated through an annual call on ISEE and merit; it also publishes vetted private listings. The University has a welcome office for international students and researchers that helps with the search.
