Sectors

The autonomous Province, the health authority, schools, the University and the provincial agencies are the first employment block and offer stable jobs through provincial competitions. The second is research and innovation: the Fondazione Bruno Kessler (artificial intelligence, quantum technologies, cybersecurity, digital health, historical and religious studies), the science departments in Povo, the Fondazione Edmund Mach in San Michele all'Adige for agri-food, and a fabric of ICT firms born as spin-offs, many hosted in the Business Innovation Centres of Trentino Sviluppo, the Province's system company; in Rovereto the Polo Meccatronica and Progetto Manifattura for the green economy.

The Trentino cooperative movement (rural banks, consumer and farming cooperatives, consortia) is a significant employer, as are agri-food (apples, wine and Trentodoc, cheeses) and valley tourism, which hires seasonal staff in winter and summer. Industry is in Gardolo and Spini (mechanics, plant engineering, publishing) and in Rovereto. The Chamber of Commerce publishes an economic newsletter with data on firms and turnover.

Job hunting and where people work

Provincial and municipal public competitions are the main channel for the public sector; for the private sector the networks of the University and FBK, agencies and online platforms matter. The Province's Agenzia del Lavoro runs the employment centres and training courses; the employment and unemployment rates shown below are regional and among the best in the country, with youth unemployment far below the Italian average.

Where people work: the centre and Piazza Dante for the public sector and banks, Le Albere and Via Verdi for services and innovation (Impact Hub Trento, Hub Innovazione Trentino), the Povo hill for research and ICT, Gardolo and Spini for industry and logistics, the Trento freight terminal for transport. Coworking spaces are few but active, mainly at Le Albere and in the centre.
