Municipality and documents
The electronic identity card (CIE) and registry services (residence, certificates, change of address) are booked online on the municipal portal and handled at the central and district registry offices; many certificates can be downloaded with SPID or CIE from the municipal site or the national ANPR registry. A registered rental contract is needed for residence registration and ZTL permits.
Waste and water
AcegasApsAmga, a Hera Group company, runs waste, water and gas in Trieste. Separate collection is mostly through street bins for paper, plastic and metals, glass, organic and residual waste, with collection islands in the historic centre and municipal collection centres for bulky items and appliances; home collection of bulky waste is booked through customer service. Tap water, largely from the Isonzo aquifers, is drinkable and checked with tens of thousands of analyses a year.
- Markets: the covered market in via Carducci (food and flowers), stalls in Ponterosso along the Canal Grande, periodic antiques markets in the centre.
- Shopping: via San Nicolò, Corso Italia and piazza della Borsa for chains and historic shops; viale XX Settembre for the evening stroll; Le Torri d'Europa and Il Giulia shopping centres.
- Libraries: the Attilio Hortis civic library (piazza Hortis) and the network of district municipal libraries; the Stelio Crise State Library in Largo Papa Giovanni XXIII; university libraries open to enrolled students.
- Newcomers: the municipality's citizen desk and URP office for paperwork and guidance; for non-EU citizens, the Sportello Unico per l'Immigrazione at the Prefettura and the Questura; the Slovene community associations and consulates (Slovenia, Austria, Croatia and others) are based in the city.
