Overview

What kind of city

According to the municipality, Vibo Valentia was one of the most important cities of Magna Graecia and stands on a hill 476 metres above sea level, with a view reaching the Aeolian Islands. The territory lies between the Tyrrhenian Sea and the Serre mountains; the municipal economy, again per the portal, rests on industry, tourism, crafts and farming.

What you find on arrival

The old town is dominated by the Norman-Swabian castle, which houses the Archaeological Museum. The city has a state music conservatoire and the ASP's main hospital, "G. Jazzolino". The municipality publishes timetables and stops for seven urban bus lines. For flights, people use Lamezia Terme airport, which SACAL's site says can be reached from Vibo Valentia by the A3 motorway, the SS 18 road or coach services.
