Identity: the city of Palladio and the Accademia Olimpica
Vicenza's identity is tied to Andrea Palladio and to the Accademia Olimpica, which commissioned the Teatro Olimpico. The International Centre for Architectural Studies Andrea Palladio has its museum here. The municipality is organised in neighbourhood councils that discuss projects and collaboration pacts for their areas.

Palladio and the Academy
Palladio was a member of the Accademia Olimpica, the cultural circle that commissioned the theatre from him in 1580; he died shortly after works began, which were followed by his son Silla, and the wooden perspectives of the seven streets of Thebes, built by Vincenzo Scamozzi for the 1585 Oedipus the King, have remained permanently on stage. After the restrictions of the Counter-Reformation the theatre was used mainly to receive illustrious guests; classical performances resumed after the Second World War.
The International Centre for Architectural Studies Andrea Palladio runs the Palladio Museum at contrà Porti 11, with a library, media library, exhibitions and a project to digitise Palladio's drawings.
Neighbourhoods
The municipality is organised in neighbourhood councils; for example council 5 (Sant'Agostino, Ferrovieri, Gogna) meets at the Ferrovieri civic centre and in 2026 reviewed proposals for neighbourhood funding calls and a collaboration pact to redevelop the Ferrovieri amphitheatre. The municipal Participation Office keeps the councils' records.
