What housing there is
Inside the Bastioni, along corso di Porta Romana and at the Crocetta, 19th- and early-20th-century palazzi with concierge and large floor plans prevail. Outside, on corso Lodi, via Crema, via Muratori and viale Umbria, middle-class blocks of the 1920s–30s and of the post-war reconstruction, with many three- and four-room flats suited to families. Towards via Ripamonti and the Scalo, new residences are being built, both open-market and subsidised, as set out in the Scalo masterplan.
Rental market and student residence
Demand comes mainly from families and professionals who want the centre on foot, and from Bocconi students, who for years have kept demand for rooms high between Porta Romana, Porta Vigentina and via Ripamonti. The Olympic Village in the Scalo, handed over to Coima in summer 2025 and used by the Milano Cortina 2026 athletes, is to become a student residence: the press reports 1,700 beds, under an agreement with the Comune di Milano with a share at capped rates allocated through a public call. Check the operator's channels for the actual status and access conditions before relying on it.
Cars, Area C and parking
Only the part inside the Bastioni (corso di Porta Romana, Crocetta) is in Area C; corso Lodi, via Crema, the Scalo and via Ripamonti are outside Area C but inside Area B. Parking is in blue and yellow bays with resident permits by sector; in the streets outside the Bastioni evening parking is easier than in the centre, but the Scalo works have removed spaces on via Lorenzini and via Ripamonti. The ATM park-and-ride at Lodi TIBB serves people arriving from outside.
