Shopping

EUR has no historic covered neighbourhood market: shopping is done in the medium and large supermarkets in the district and along the Colombo, where there is also a large shopping mall, and in the shops of viale Europa, the district's commercial street with clothing, delicatessens and cafés. The model is that of a twentieth-century residential district: the big shop is done by car, not round the corner. The nearest farmers' and neighbourhood markets are in the adjacent districts of Municipio IX.

Services, health, schools, libraries

The district has the Sant'Eugenio hospital, with an emergency department, in piazzale dell'Umanesimo. Pharmacies are on viale Europa, viale America and in the residential squares. There are state nursery, primary and secondary schools and several licei and private institutes, one of the reasons families choose EUR; the nearest state universities are Roma Tre in Ostiense and the Sapienza in the centre, reachable by metro B.

EUR has no Biblioteche di Roma branch within the district's perimeter; the reference public libraries are those of Municipio IX in the neighbouring districts, reachable by bus from Laurentina. The Central State Archive is based in piazzale degli Archivi.

Green space and leisure

Green space is the district's real asset, managed by EUR S.p.A.: the Parco Centrale del Lago around the artificial lake, where people run, cycle and hire boats; the Passeggiata del Giappone with its cherry blossom in spring; the Giardino delle Cascate, completed in 1961 and reopened after restoration; the gardens around the basilica of Santi Pietro e Paolo. Luneur Park (1953) is Italy's oldest amusement park; the Piscina delle Rose, built for the 1960 Olympics, is a public outdoor pool.

Nightlife is limited: restaurants, pizzerie and cocktail bars on viale Europa, around piazza Guglielmo Marconi and by the lake, with a clientele of residents and office workers. The Palazzo dello Sport hosts the big concerts, the Nuvola and the Palazzo dei Congressi fairs and congresses, and the Museo delle Civiltà and the Museo storico della Comunicazione complete the cultural offer.
