Sectors

Abruzzo has employment rates higher than the other southern regions but below the Centre-North, with a marked gap between the coast and the inland provinces. Manufacturing weighs more than elsewhere in the South: the Stellantis plant at Atessa and the Val di Sangro suppliers (Honda at Atessa, Pilkington and Denso at San Salvo), pharmaceuticals (Dompé and Sanofi in L'Aquila and Scoppito, Menarini), electronics and semiconductors in Avezzano (LFoundry), textiles and agri-food around Teramo, pasta and wine around Chieti. Pescara is the hub for services, retail and the regional administration.

Seasonality and inland areas

Seasonal work concentrates on the coast from June to September (Pescara, Montesilvano, Vasto, Costa dei Trabocchi) and on the ski slopes from December to March (Roccaraso-Rivisondoli, Ovindoli, Campo Felice). In L'Aquila reconstruction sustained construction for years; the Gran Sasso Science Institute, the university and the INFN laboratories offer skilled research jobs. SVIMEZ (a research association, not an official source) reports a negative balance of young graduates leaving Abruzzo for Rome, the North and abroad, especially from inland areas.

Services and incentives

Job centres are run by the Abruzzo Region, which publishes vacancies and courses through its portal and employment services. Since 2024 Abruzzo is part of the ZES unica: tax credit for investments in capital goods and a single authorisation procedure through the digital one-stop shop; rates and deadlines change with each budget law and should be checked on the official pages.
