Seasons and areas

The coast (Lignano Sabbiadoro, Grado, Trieste with its bathing establishments) works from May to September; Trieste is a year-round destination for the Barcolana (October), its historic cafés, Miramare castle and scientific tourism. In the mountains: Tarvisio, Sella Nevea (linked to Bovec in Slovenia), Piancavallo, Forni di Sopra, Sappada and the Zoncolan for skiing from December to March; Carnia for summer trekking. The Collio and Colli Orientali attract wine tourism in autumn. Nova Gorica and Gorizia were the first cross-border European Capital of Culture (GO! 2025).

Rules

The tourist tax is municipal: Trieste, Lignano, Grado and the main resorts apply it; there are no regional access limits. PromoTurismoFVG's FVG Card includes museums and transport in some versions. On the Karst and in the pre-Alps, bans on foraging and on entering unequipped caves without a guide apply.
